Why should US Citizens care about immigration enforcement?

Aren’t ICE agents just doing their job?

Aren’t the police here to help us?

Isn’t law enforcement justified in the actions it takes, because it goes after  “bad guys?”

Well, sometimes.

And sometimes ICE locks up US Citizens in its raids.

And sometimes the police brutalize the innocent.

And sometimes a culture of “us against them”  takes over law enforcement, and officers of the law — the law that’s designed to protect, the law they’ve sworn an oath to uphold –close ranks, and the police justify what they’ve done, no matter how horrendous or absurd. For example, shooting a fleeing dog in a botched drug raid, then claiming that the officer “felt threatened.”

Time was, people would flee countries where that sort of thing happened, and seek asylum here in the United States.

We need to concern ourselves with enforcement, because when officers think they can get away with outrageous conduct, they’ll keep pushing the envelope.
